Time to speak up again ….. we should be ashamed!

Thank you for your vote on the HST – the people have spoken but is government getting it.  Read this weeks commentary:

HST – Election – Economy – Is the HST Debate over?

Further, shame on BC: Campbell receiving the Order of British Columbia.  This is outrageous.  Sign the petition or better still write your letters to the mainstream media, the Lt. Governor and Premier of BC  Click on Petition

The rules for awarding an Order of BC are as follows:

1)   Section 17(2) of the Symbols and Honours Act states that QUOTE A person who is an elected federal, provincial or municipal representative is not eligible to be appointed a member of the Order while that person remains in officeSee link
2)  Nominations for the order of BC closed on March 10th, 2010 for the year 2010 and will close on March 10th, 2012 for the year 2012.  Your “orderofbc” website simply states that nominations for 2011 are now closed.  Although I can’t find any mention on your website of the date that nominations closed for 2011, it would seem that they closed on March 10th (a Thursday). In order to be eligible to be nominated to receive the Order of BC award for 2011, Gordon Campbell would have had to have been nominated by Thursday, March 10, 2011. See link:
3)  The Elections BC website (link follows) shows that Gordon Campbell’s resignation as an MLA was effective on Tuesday March 15th, 2011. That is 5 days after the deadline for nominations. See link
Thus, Gordon Campbell was still an MLA (elected Provincial Representative) on March 10th, hence he was ineligible under Section 17(2) of the Symbols & Honours Act to be nominated.  If he could not be nominated for the 2011 Order of BC by the deadline, how could he be eligible for the award this year?
